Samson and Patricks 2 player monopoly game: Mo’Nopoly
or 2 player normal monopoly sucks.
Ahem...
As you know monopoly's twist is that it's all about trading, making it almost impossible to play two players.
You wind up going round and round and round...blah.
The SP 2 player version is a normal game, with all the standard rules, with a few differences.
1. Players begin with $1000 not $1500
1b. Roll 1 die each to begin, the player with the higher die roll combines the two rolls into his starting move.
Ex. If Samson rolls a 3 and patrick rolls a 7 , Samson get's to go first and move 10 squares. Patrick then gets his normal roll. The reason for this is that this way, nobody gets to go first AND get doubles. It eliminates some of that first round advantage.
Community Chest and Chance Cards
All cards are worth half. So when it states 'Bank Error in your favor recieve $200' you recieve $100.
Buying property
If you land on a piece of property you may buy it outright, or place it on the auction block like normal monopoly.
If you land on a piece of property you already own, you may buy 1 house to place on it.
If you land on a piece of property you already own with one house on it you may buy another house to place on it.
Two houses is the maximum you can place on property you don't have the whole set of. If you do own a set you can buy houses and place them as normal. Don't think that this means you can buy 2 houses and place them on 1 of the 3 houses in the set though and then mortgage the other 2 cards in the set. Once you own a set you treat it EXACTLY like real Monopoly house building. If you wind up with an unbalanced house set you must build to even it back out.
Optional Tournament rule
We play with an imaginary doubling cube, and play for $2 a game against each other. You can use points instead of cash though.
The doubling cube works like it does in backgammon.
If your opponent wants to double the stakes/points of the game you have to either accept or forfeit the game (and the original $2/2 pts.
If the double is accepted, then only the player which accepted the double can re-double.
Tips On Winning Monopoly
For example if Samson lands on and buys all the railroads on the first round he'd say 'I double'. Patrick reconsiders his chance of winning the game and forfeits the 2 points by not accepting. Game Over. Samson has won the 2 points new game starts.
Next game Patrick gets the advance to boardwalk card, and rolls 2 sets of 12's to a few free laps around the board, while Samson languishes in Jail. Patrick states I double.
Samson accepts the double. This game is now worth 4 points. Patrick then has a big run of good luck more, but he cannot double again as Samson 'owns' the doubling cube.
Later the same game Samson gets a set, and there is no way for Patrick to get a set. Samson says 'I double', Patrick accepts this double and makes this game worth 8 points.
Patrick as usual lucks out avoiding Samson's set for the next 32 rounds and wins.
Final score for the 2 games played
Samson game A: 2 points
Patrick game B: 8 points
Patrick overall winner 6 points.
Samson Patrick Monoply is very very addictive....
